Given the reduced funding available to CPRIT in Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021, CPRIT’s Academic Research, Prevention, and Product Development Research Programs plan to reduce the number of annual grant application cycles. Instead of two grant application cycles per year, CPRIT’s Programs will offer one application cycle for each of the next two years.
CPRIT will post FY 2020 RFAs for Academic Research grants on January 10, 2019, for the following grant mechanisms:
CPRIT will continue to offer always-open Recruitment RFAs. CPRIT’s Prevention and Product Development Research Program FY 2020 RFA schedules are forthcoming.
CPRIT has submitted a legislative appropriations request for general revenue in order to maintain the amount available for grants at the same level as previous years. If the Legislature approves CPRIT’s request in the upcoming legislative session, we will offer a second grant application cycle in Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021.
A constitutional amendment to reauthorize CPRIT (HJR12) has been introduced in the Legislature which, if passed, would be placed on the November 2019 statewide ballot. Like the constitutional vote in 2007 that created and funded CPRIT, approval of the constitutional amendment by Texas voters would authorize another $3 billion for cancer research and prevention in Texas.
